Specified Skilled Worker, usually written SSW, is a Japanese status of residence for workers in designated industry fields. It is the route behind most of the Japanese roles you will see advertised by licensed Philippine agencies, including the caregiving and manufacturing postings on this site.
What the route generally asks for
Two things, broadly: evidence that you can do the work, and evidence that you can function in Japanese in that workplace. Both are usually demonstrated through tests, and both are set by the Japanese side rather than by the agency. Completing Japan’s technical intern training can substitute for some of it.
What this means when you are looking at a posting
Read the requirement line on the posting rather than the route. SSW sets the frame, but the employer’s approved job order sets the specifics: which field, which tests, and what language level. If a recruiter tells you the requirements without reference to an order, they are describing something they have not seen.
Japanese study is worth starting early either way. It is one of the few things you can do before a job order exists that is never wasted.
