Illegal recruitment usually comes with an office, a logo and a friendly recruiter. What it does not survive is a licence check. These nine signs are the ones worth learning, because any one of them is enough to walk away.
- Payment demanded before a real job order exists.
- A guaranteed visa, salary, or departure date.
- Recruitment conducted only through a personal social media account.
- No office you can visit.
- An office address that does not match the address on the licence.
- Pressure to decide today.
- Refusal to put terms in writing.
- A medical at a clinic the recruiter insists on, before you are matched to a job order.
- Refusal to name the employer and the job order your application is for.
What to do about them
Stop, and check the licence on dmw.gov.ph before anything else. Do not send documents, do not send money, and do not let anyone keep your passport. Report the agency or the individual to the Department of Migrant Workers, and report it even if you have already paid. Records matter, and you will not be the only one.
