Placement fees explained: what an agency can and cannot charge

Handshake over a wooden table

A placement fee is a regulated charge, not a deposit and not a booking. It may only be collected after a worker has signed an employment contract and where the job order permits it. It is capped, it is receipted, and it is never a condition of being considered for a role.

What you should never be charged for

  • Submitting an application
  • Being interviewed
  • Having your CV forwarded to an employer
  • Reserving a slot on an order that does not exist yet

Why nobody can give you one number

What may be charged depends on your destination and on the job order itself. Some destinations and some categories do not permit a placement fee at all. Anyone who quotes you a single figure before knowing which order you are being considered for is guessing, or worse.

Ask three questions before you pay anything: which employer, which job order, and what does the regulation permit for that destination. A licensed agency can answer all three in writing.
